The Non-Traditional Resume IS the Way of the Future…. but… Where do you start?

By Lynn Reyes, Manager of Career Resources, American Marketing Association

Lately there has been a lot of buzz about using nontraditional resumes and/or building an online profile complete with all the bells and whistles (in resume land this is now called infographics). If you are like most Marketing Professionals, who know a lot about promoting others’ products and services (working with a creative team and coming up with a communications strategy etc.), but are still probably wondering where to start with this one and what is accepted protocol.

So.. I spent some time researching what tools are out there to make it easy for us, specifically. templates that you can use to plug and play your information to create that jazzy online identity you envision. Below, I have included a list of some of the most popular template providers and my thoughts/comments on each. Also, a couple of tips when making your selection (this will help you come to your decision):

Tip 1: When going down the path of creating this nontraditional resume/online portfolio think about what best fits your personality and the personality of the jobs that you are applying for. Are you okay with radically migrating away from a traditional resume?  Are the companies/jobs you are applying into understanding and appreciative of a more creative approach?

Tip 2: Decide what the output is that you want to end up with. This will help you determine what platform is best for you. By output I mean: Video? Downloadable traditional resume? Resume that is highly visual with images and infographics? An interactive website?

I know … a lot to decide, but hopefully this will make it easier for you. And now my list:
